Here is a clip of me, marXavian, performing a piece I wrote entitled "Hair".
Hair
Long Hair don't care
From roots to end
Ending in extensions
Extending our value
Because long hair is beautiful
Even when the edges
Disappear...
Hair
Birthed from the crown
A long tedious relationship
Consisting of
weekly growth checks
for inches.
Reservations for weekly lineups
Maintenance of this prized possession
Historically associated
as a giver of strength, magic, and wonder.
A happily ever onward greased in a glob
of "Baby Don't Be Bald"
The Black appear fair
assessing good or bad hair
Black hair ain't always fair
And fair hair ain't always Black,
or brown, or blonde
from perms to presses, S curls and
gel pomade.
Even your beauty store
"shake and go"!
Hair is just hair.
Changing like seasons.
Ethnic hair ain't hair.
It's plush, kinky, yet strong.
Curls, rods, braids, and metal bars.
Twisting the perceptions of
how beauty appears...
